Whether you are an adjuster or you are in another form of business that requires frequent travel, I am sure you will agree that business travel can be stressful, anxiety ridden and unpredictable. But, there are methods to make business travel easier and even turn it into an enjoyable experience.
Due to the fact that I have been traveling for business many years, I have discovered some valuable information to make it much easier.
Whether you are a seasoned business traveler or you are a rookie insurance adjuster, I know all of you can gain some insight as I give you these 10 business travel tips.
Business Travel Tip #1: Use TripIt
I remember the days when I would use a spreadsheet to map out my complete itinerary. Not any more since I discovered the TripIt app. My travel plans and itinerary are automatically imported into the TripIt app. I can install contacts at each location and it easily organizes everything in one place. TripIt is synced with my calendar so I do not double book. And, I don't have to have WiFi to access the app.
You can get TripIt for each device below:
iOS
Android
Blackberry
and Windows Phone
Business Travel Tip #2: Non-Stop Flights
There is nothing more frustrating than being on a flight where I change planes at O'Hare and the flight is delayed for 1 ½ hours because the toilet had to be changed. When you are on a tight schedule, these situations can cause a huge batch of unnecessary anxiety.
They may be slightly higher priced, but non-stop flights can save your sanity. And do not mistake non-stop with direct. Direct flights do land at connecting airports, you just don't get off the plane, but the toilet may have to.
Business Travel Tip #3: Stay Wrinkle Free
Don't you just hate packing a perfectly pressed item only to find it full of wrinkles when you unpack? While I really don't dislike ironing, it is time consuming. There are many other tasks that need to be done not to mention, a little relaxation after that flight.
One of the best methods to keep clothing wrinkle free are dry cleaner bags. They work, so I suggest you purchase some of them.
Business Travel Tip #4: TSA Pre
The hassle of removing shoes, laptops and all those other items just to get through airport security can turn a smile into a frown. One of the best investments I ever made cost me $85 for 5 years. You simply apply online and then you will have to visit a TSA Pre office that will probably be located in a major airport near you. This will be for fingerprinting and a background check.
Once you have your TSA Pre designation, you will get through TSA quickly everytime.
Visit the TAS Pre link to apply.
Business Travel Tip #5: Carry Earplugs
Some flights can be peaceful but then there are others that can give you the impression that you just entered a heavy metal rock concert. I do not care for the bulky ear muff contraptions the airlines offer. I discovered that investing in some simple ear plugs do wonders.
Business Travel Tip #6: Buy A Local Newspaper
You can learn a lot about a community just by reading the local newspaper. This has helped me understand subjects some of the insured were talking about. It also helps you know if there is some event in the community that you may be interested in attending. And best of all, there are coupons. I have had some great meals for low cost thanks to the local newspaper.
Business Travel Tip #7: Emergen-C
Okay, I am giving a product some free marketing… Maybe they will send me a free year supply.
Well even if they don't, this is for all you business travelers. I totally believe in this stuff. Traveling can bring our immune systems down, and this powdered supplement that you add to water brings the immune system back to optimal level. Plus it tastes good.
Business Travel Tip #8: Full Charge
Always make sure all your electronics are full charged before flight. There are normally outlets all over airports so you can do so. I had mentioned non-stop flights and if you are using your electronics a lot during flight, there is no way to charge them unless you do carry a portable charge pack which is also not a bad idea.
Business Travel Tip #9: Bring Your Own Pillow
Who knows how many heads have been on that airline pillow. Even if it is in plastic and they tell you it is new, the thought is still in the back of your mind. I suggest you purchase a comfortable travel pillow. You will be happy you did.
Business Travel Tip #10: Drink Plenty Of Water
Keep your body hydrated at all times and you will feel much better. I have noticed less jet lag issues if I keep water flowing through my body. It is even wise to carry an empty water bottle and fill it at water fountains in the airport. That saves on the cost of bottled water.
Conclusion
I know that if you follow these travel tips, you will have less stress and anxiety. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Or if you have any added travel tips, just share them.
Also, please share this with your fellow business travelers. Let's make it an easier time for all.
